Imani Records is one of Orrin Evans’ contributions as an entrepreneurial musician and a joint undertaking with his wife, singer Dawn Evans. Founded in 2001, the label began as a vehicle for Evans’ recording projects. However, as his influence as a bandleader and producer has grown, so has the number of artists the label represents. Even as a label owner, Evans’ approach to artist representation is about freedom of expression.
Imani is more of a collective — we all work together to help each other. Caleb Wheeler Curtis, Jonathan Michel, Thomas Marriott, and many others work together to promote and share this music we all love. This weekend, Imani Records is presenting three artists with recent releases on the label. Join us as Thomas Marriott plays music from “Screentime,” Caleb Wheeler Curtis plays music from his album “The True Story of Bears and The Invention Of The Battery,” and Jonathan Michel (Saturday) presents songs from his “MDR” album, which served as the relaunch of Imani Records.
