Esteban Castro first gained international attention at 13, becoming the youngest winner in the history of the Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition. Since then, the Juilliard-trained pianist has developed into one of the most distinctive young artists on the scene, earning recognition from the American Pianists Association, ASCAP, and the Gilmore Festival’s inaugural Larry J. Bell Young Jazz Artist Award.

Since moving to New York, Castro has performed nationally and internationally as a leader, and as a side musician for bands led by artists such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Billy Drummond, Francesco Cafiso, Peter Evans, Joe Farnsworth, Giveton Gelin, Russell Hall, Harish Raghavan, and Ben Solomon. He brings his own group back to The Jazz Gallery on July 9th as part of our SummerPass Series.
