Día de Muertos week
This year, Flatiron NoMad Partnership is expanding their annual one-day Día de Muertos celebration to a full week of happenings! From October 28th to November 1st, join the Partnership for a variety of Día de Muertos events throughout the district, including:
Monday, October 28th, 4-6 pm | Food Sampling
Stop by local Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood for free food samples at participating businesses, Tacombi, Mamazul, and Casa Carmen. While supplies last.
Wednesday, October 30th, 12-3 pm | Family-Friendly Event at Capitol Plaza
Head to the Capitol Plaza for a community Día de Muertos event.
Friday, November 1st, 3-7 pm | Día de Muertos Celebration at Flatiron North Plaza
This year’s Día de Muertos Celebration will include:
- A curated mix of Mexican folklore performances presented by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company.
- Our interactive community altar presented in partnership and elaborated by Mano a Mano. Attendees are invited to bring photos and small mementos in honor of their departed loved ones to place at the altar.
- Receive your Día de Muertos face painting transformation by our on-site make-up artist. Presented by Flatiron NoMad Partnership.
- Decorate your own sugar skull (Calaverita de Azucar) to take home or to place on the altar. Presented by the Flatiron NoMad Partnership.

Stroll along 29th Street & Broadway for an outdoor photo exhibit by Fernando Avila Aguilar featuring photos of Día de Muertos celebrations in Mexico.
Monday, October 28th – Friday, November 1st | Mobile Día de Muertos Experience
A small box activation throughout the district.

What is Día de Muertos?
Día de Muertos is a Mexican tradition of pre-Hispanic origin that celebrates the memory and presence of the deceased. According to popular belief, from October 31 – November 2 the souls return home to be with their loved ones. Altars are assembled with offerings, food, and rituals to celebrate their visit.
