WHAT IS BROADWAY VISION?

NYC DOT’s Broadway Vision program, envisioned to extend from Columbus Circle to Union Square (including through the heart of NoMad and Flatiron), offers a variety of block types like fully pedestrianized public plazas, shared streets with seating areas and 5MPH speed limits, and enhanced design elements featuring bike lanes, greenery, and other traffic-calming elements. On August 21, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams and NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced a new phase of Broadway Vision to better connect Flatiron and Union Square. Improvements will be incorporated along Broadway from 21st Street south to Union Square including additional areas for public seating, walking, and bicycling.

Mayor Eric Adams and NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez celebrated the completion of a new phase of Broadway Vision from 25th Street to 32nd Street through NoMad on June 23, 2023. Announced in March 2023, this project delivered two new plazas, five blocks of shared streets, and a two-way bike connection from Madison Square to Greeley Square.

“Today, we are delivering major improvements along seven blocks of Broadway, reclaiming space for people to enjoy, and showing the world that New York City is back,” said Mayor Adams. Broadway through NoMad now features public space enhancements along with traffic calming elements, including:

• Full pedestrian plazas from West 25th Street & West 26th Street and from West 26th Street to West 27th Street
• Two-way bike lanes from 25th Street to 27th Street and formalized two-way bike boulevards from 27th Street to 32nd Street
• Shortened pedestrian crossings that enhance safety
• Reconfigured curb access for commercial deliveries and rideshare pick-up/drop-off
• Four new public seating areas, planters and greenery, increased Citi Bike capacity, and additional bike parking throughout

Mayor Eric Adams and DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced a new phase of the administration’s Broadway Vision plan on March 12, 2023 with new public spaces and safer street designs between Madison Square and Herald Square. This phase will deliver two new plaza blocks from 25th Street to 27th Street, five blocks of shared streets, and a two-way bike connection on Broadway from 25th Street to 32nd Street (Greeley Square).
