WINTER GLOW ART INSTALLATIONs
Thursday, 1/16 – Friday, 2/28 | Winter Glow Art Installations On View at the Flatiron Public Plazas
The Diamonds by Perséides Studio and Spectrum by Mirari from QDSinternational. Both The Diamonds and Spectrum have daily operating hours of 7AM – 10 PM.

The Diamonds dazzle as they reflect sunlight, and
shine brightly when they light up at night. From a
distance, Alexis Laurence and Francis Laporte’s
elegant interactive artwork, The Diamonds, draws
your eye, inviting you to get closer and make
the structures turn. Their movement produces
a melody along with a kaleidoscopic array
of glittering lines and points. Each Diamond
has its own distinctive colour and tune. When
you get together with other people to make
each installation spin, the artwork produces a
harmonious waltz in music and light, a thrill for
your eyes and ears.

This interactive installation sheds light on the
phenomenon of communication, by displaying
the path taken by the waves generated by voices
and other sounds. Here, the fundamental means
of interpersonal communication, speech, is
disconnected from language. Instead, it becomes
a cascade of waves and luminous pulses,
illustrating the fascinating trajectories of sound.
Watch as your message moves from one end of
the circles to the other. You will see how small
gestures – invisible reverberations – can have a
big impact.
