“Pianist and composer Hayoung Lyou makes her leader debut at The Jazz Gallery, presenting music from her recent release “”The Myth of Katabasis.”” The album, featuring Thomas Morgan and Steven Crammer, has garnered acclaim from Downbeat – which praised its sophisticated balance of grim themes and playful irony – along with recognition from the Italian national magazine Il Manifesto and The New York City Jazz Record.

For this performance, Lyou joins forces with three distinct voices from Brooklyn’s creative music scene: Alec Goldfarb on guitar, Seajun Kwon on bass, and Steven Crammer on drums. Together, they craft musical landscapes that blur the lines between composition and improvisation, combining high intensity with subtle humor.

Based in Brooklyn, Lyou works actively as both bandleader and collaborator. Her artistic journey includes her debut album “”Metamorphosis”” (2020) and performances with forward-thinking artists Jacob Shulman, Nick Rosario, and Elijah Shiffer.
