Broadway Vision
Broadway Vision
We’re proud to work with NYC DOT on their Broadway Vision program, which offers designs that can be installed based on block-by-block community and stakeholder input. Broadway Vision in Flatiron and NoMad increases public space, calms traffic, and fosters a safe, inviting corridor for walking, dining, and bicycling.
NYC DOT’s Broadway Vision program, envisioned to extend from Columbus Circle to Union Square (including through the heart of NoMad and Flatiron), offers a variety of block types like fully pedestrianized public plazas, shared streets with seating areas and 5MPH speed limits, and enhanced design elements featuring bike lanes, greenery, and other traffic-calming elements.
In August 2024, NYC DOT completed construction and redesign of Broadway from Union Square to Greeley Square, completing the full stretch of Broadway that runs through Flatiron and NoMad. The process to transform Broadway began in 2008 with the construction of New York City’s first ever plazas, to 2017 with Manhattan’s first ever Shared Street between 24th and 25th Street, to 2020’s experimental NoMad Piazza. We are ecstatic to see Broadway thrive to be a pedestrian-first throughway.
On Broadway in Flatiron and NoMad, you will find:
- Full pedestrian plazas from West 25th Street & West 26th Street and from West 26th Street to West 27th Street
- Two-way bike lanes from 25th Street to 27th Street and formalized two-way bike boulevards from 27th Street to 32nd Street
- Shortened pedestrian crossings that enhance safety
- Reconfigured curb access for commercial deliveries and rideshare pick-up/drop-off
- Four new public seating areas, planters and greenery, increased Citi Bike capacity, and additional bike parking throughout
