New Neighbor: Kernel
We’re excited to welcome Kernel, the new fast-casual, plant-based restaurant at 315 Park Avenue South. Founded by former CEO of Chipotle Steve Ells, the tech-forward eatery allows guests to enjoy delicious food in a convenient and accessible way.
“When the team was scouting the premiere location of this new concept, they knew it had to be in Flatiron & NoMad,” says the Kernel Team. “The neighborhood is a perfect fit, thanks to the great restaurant neighbors, walkable streets, and myriad businesses in the area. The entire Kernel team is thrilled to serve the Flatiron & NoMad community by offering a delicious, convenient, and affordable lunch option.”
Kernel prioritizes being environmentally-friendly by having a smaller footprint. Through a reduced staff presence with the assistance of tailored automation, the Kernel Team is able to make each meal to order, correctly, and efficiently. This operation model lets Kernel streamline food preparation and cut down on food waste. Customers can easily use Kernel’s digital ordering system online or via app.
The restaurant has re-engineered the ordering and preparation process from start to finish, where meals are fulfilled in the order with which they are placed and guests receive an assigned and accurate pick-up time. When an order is ready, customers are notified by text or email. After arriving at Kernel, guests can use their mobile device to unlock a secure, personalized cubby to get their food, making the pick-up process seamless.
The menu, designed by Andrew Black, Chief Culinary Officer and former Sous Chef at Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park, serves as an entry point for incorporating more plant-based food into one’s life. Enjoy tasty eats including the Kernel Burger, a roasted veggie patty made with sweet potato, quinoa and chickpeas, topped with salsa verde and pickled onions on a toasted brioche bun. Try a Chopped Salad featuring kale, romaine, and radicchio with semi-dried tomatoes, green olives, banana peppers, chickpeas, marinated tofu, seasoned breadcrumbs and tossed in a red wine vinaigrette.
Pair your main with a side or two. Order the Crunchy Cucumbers with wild rice, basil, cilantro, mint, chili jam and cashews and the Crispy Potatoes. Save room for dessert and indulge in a Chocolate Chunk or Oatmeal Raisin Walnut Cookie.
Enjoy a delicious, on-the-go meal from Kernel!
Kernel is open Monday through Friday from 11 am – 3:30 pm.
