New Neighbor: Grandma’s Home
We’re excited to welcome Grandma’s Home, the new family-owned and operated Chinese restaurant serving traditional homestyle cooking of Hangzhou in a modern setting. Located at 56 West 22nd Street in Flatiron, this is the restaurant’s first U.S. location since its launch in 1998 with over 200 locations in 60 cities throughout China.
“I am excited to offer our traditions and flavors of Hangzhou cuisine to New York City and to be in the Flatiron District,” says Julia Zhu, U.S. Managing Partner and daughter of one of Grandma’s Home’s founders. “The neighborhood is a cross section of so many happenings in the city and a personal favorite of mine, as it is where I live, too!”
Upon entering Grandma’s Home guests are met by a welcoming design and ambiance. Imagined by Volenec Studio, the interior features vibrant contemporary Chinese art and playful décor, combining elements present at Grandma’s Home locations in China with design touches of New York City. Artworks by young Chinese artists from around the world, including including Peter Chan and Guang-Yu Zhang are featured throughout the space.
Grandma’s Home offers authentic Hangzhou flavors. Hangzhou cuisine highlights in-season and carefully selected ingredients, and blends culinary influences from throughout north and south China. The menu features appetizers and dim sum, entrees, soups, rice and noodles, and desserts. Begin your dinner with a couple of appetizers and dim sum such as You Tiao Shrimp, Chinese donut sticks stuffed with shrimp, Seasonal Vegetables in a chili vinaigrette, and Xiao Long Bao, soup dumplings with pork and crab. For a main, order a few signature dishes such as Clay Pot Chicken with Green Tea, Hong Shao Rou, braised pork belly with steamed buns, and Soy Glazed Fried Shrimp.
Pair your meal with a beverage from their cocktail program inspired by Chinese folktales such as Uncle Song’s Sippy Cup made with oka kura bermutto, voume primo vermouth, ginger, honey, and lime or Basil Green Tea Smash made with pineau park cognac, green tea Umeshu, Thai basil, and lemon.
