New Neighbor: The Fifth Avenue Hotel
We’re thrilled to welcome The Fifth Avenue Hotel to the neighborhood located at 1 West 28th Street in NoMad. Reminiscent of the Gilded Age, the boutique hotel combines New York City’s heritage with the present.
“The Fifth is the realization of many years of dreaming and discovery,” says Founder Alex Ohebshalom. “We are creating a one-of-a-kind experience; it is a whimsical, transformational escape in the heart of Manhattan. Our creative spirit will allow us to elevate the guest experience, introducing a new level of service designed to inspire and delight.”
Developed by internationally acclaimed firms, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and Perkins Eastman in collaboration with Flâneur Hospitality, the hotel features 153 guestrooms and suites, some of which feature private terraces. Inspired by the history of the neighborhood and heritage of the landmark building, the hotel has a Bohemian romantic aesthetic and contemporary ambiance. Once the home and carriage house of Ms. Charlotte Goodridge, a leading figure in Manhattan’s Gilded Age society in the late 19th century, the hotel pays homage to the legacy and lifestyle of those who lived on Fifth Avenue.
Upon entering the lobby, guests will be met with a welcoming interior that offers a residential feel to find their home away from home. The lobby’s double-height ceiling, walls adorned with antique mirrors, marbled floors, and arched windows invite visitors to enjoy grand hospitality while at The Fifth Avenue Hotel. Guestrooms and suites contrast the modern with the classic featuring luxurious lighting to custom wardrobes, bold patterns, and a rich color palette.
Within The Fifth Avenue Hotel resides culinary destinations led by James Beard Award-winning Chef Andrew Carmellini. The hotel’s signature restaurant, Café Carmellini, showcases Chef Carmellini’s 30-year career into a memorable dining experience blending Italian and French cuisine with classic New York sensibility. The main dining room highlights the landmark building’s original neoclassical architecture with maximalist style. Guests can also enjoy The Portrait Bar, led by Bar Director and longtime industry veteran Darryl Chan. The Portrait Bar offers sophisticated cocktails and elevated bar fare in a wood-paneled interior featuring an exceptional art collection and stone carved fireplace.
