We’re excited to welcome SOL Mexican Cocina to the neighborhood at 220 Fifth Avenue. A beloved restaurant from Southern California, SOL Mexican Cocina serves the best of coastal Mexican cuisine offering fresh Baja-style cooking with authentic recipes.
“Following years of hard work, starting on the west coast, and growing this brand across the country, we are pleased to be given the opportunity to open SOL Mexican Cocina in New York City, a city known to have some of the best restaurants in the world,” says XRG’s CEO, Randy Sharpe. “We are ready to have New Yorkers and tourists try SOL’s award-winning dishes and hand-crafted margaritas that Southern Californians fell in love with, originally.”
Upon entering the restaurant, the spacious interior provides an elegant getaway-inspired resort feel with both indoor and outdoor seating. The eclectic menu features organic, seasonal ingredients that are sourced from local purveyors for delicious dishes made from scratch by the culinary team. Begin your meal with a refreshing handcrafted margarita and an appetizer such as the Grilled Sweet Corn that’s carved tableside, tossed with butter, lime, chiles, cotija cheese and drizzled with housemade chipotle sauce. For a main dish, choose from a variety of flavorful options. Try the Ceviche Sol with sashimi-grade fish, lime juice, pico de gallo, serrano peppers, sliced avocado, and tostadas, or Short Ribs ‘Barbacoa’ featuring slow-cooked short ribs, chiles, guacamole, cotija cheese, sweet potato, onions, and cilantro served with a side of borracho black beans & red rice.
For a handheld main, order Specialty tacos or a torta, offered during lunch daily from 11 am – 4 pm. Enjoy the Chicken Fajita Club Torta made with grilled chicken, poblanos, peppers, onion, guacamole, bacon, and cheese, or the Ribeye “Quesotorta” featuring seared ribeye bistek, crispy cheese, cilantro chimichurri, guacamole, onion, and cilantro. Complement your meal with a beverage from the restaurant’s 80+ selection of Mexico’s finest small-batch mezcal and tequila-focused drinks. Also stop by for Taco & Tequila Tuesday from 3 pm – close and Happy Hour on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Additionally, SOL Mexican Cocina offers weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 3 pm featuring live music. Start your weekend with flavor-rich dishes including, Huevos Rancheros, Chili Verde Eggs & Jalapeño Cornbread, and Soufflé Carlotta.
