New Neighbor: Georgia Room & Bar Calico

We’re pleased to welcome Georgia Room & Bar Calico to the neighborhood located within the Freehand New York at 23 Lexington Avenue, 2nd Floor. Opened by Authentic Hospitality, Georgia Room is a lounge inspired by the 20th-century artist Georgia O’Keefe. The sister venue Bar Calico is an intimate cocktail bar surrounded by influences of O’Keefe’s artistic vision.

“We are thrilled to be in the Flatiron and NoMad neighborhood because it is a true neighborhood! People who live in the area are some of our most frequent guests and we love being a part of their daily lives,” says Kaitlin Prince, Director of Marketing & Events at Authentic Hospitality. “We also feel it is a neighborhood that has been underserved – there are plenty of high end restaurants and dive bars, but there aren’t many in-the-middle, neighborhood spots.”

At 2,400 square feet, Georgia Room’s interior features the color palette of the southwestern desert with warm, natural, and vibrant tones and aims to feel like feel like an elegant and funky artist’s home that you were invited to a party at. Inspiration is taken from Ghost Ranch, the residence and studio of Georgia O’Keeffe as well as the landscapes near Santa Fe, Abiquiu and Taos, New Mexico. The high energy feel of Georgia Room comes from O’Keefe’s connection with New York City as her first gallery was in Manhattan and pays homage to this era of her life with cultural programming and dancing with sounds by the city’s best DJs.

Bar Calico is an intimate candlelit space filled with O’Keefe-inspired decor where you can enjoy specialty craft cocktails created by Head Bartender Trevor Langer and team. Upon entering Bar Calico, guests are taken through the Studio, a second lounge area joining Georgia Room and Bar Calico. Featuring a piano and bar, Studio is reminiscent of an artist’s home studio filled with natural light and cozy seating.

Georgia Room is open for DJs and dancing on Thursday from 9 pm – 2 am and Friday – Saturday from 10 pm – 3 am. Bar Calico is open Monday – Thursday from 5 pm – 11 pm and Friday – Saturday from 5 pm – 1 am.
