New Neighbor: Comodo

New Neighbors

Nov 18, 2021

We’re pleased to welcome Comodo, a Latin-American inspired restaurant to the neighborhood. Located at 23 Lexington Avenue on the first floor of The Freehand New York Hotel, Comodo is led by husband and wife duo, Executive Chef Felipe Donnelly and Wine Director Tamy Rofe

“We’re excited to bring back Comodo after so many years, and are honored to do so in Flatiron,” says Executive Chef Felipe Donnelly. “It’s such an interesting neighborhood to be in – you have older New Yorkers who have lived in the neighborhood for decades, and you also have a much younger crowd that is excited to go out and explore the city. When we were connected with the Freehand team and heard what they were looking for in the space, we knew Comodo would be a great fit and we’ve been excited to see everything come to life.”

Comodo’s interior features a 70-seat dining room with large windows providing plenty of natural light to contrast with dark hues of orange and blue. Additionally, the use of rustic wood and stone within the ceiling and walls creates the perfect ambience for dining at any time of day or night. Comodo’s menus highlight specific places from Chef Donnelly’s childhood such as, Brazil, Mexico and Spain, offering a fusion of flavors.

For dinner, begin with starters such as a Trout Ceviche Tostada and Lamb Sliders with chipolte crema. For a vegetarian option, try the Wild Mushroom al Ajillo Tacos served on handmade tortillas. Enjoy entrées like the Bone-In Ribeye with chimmichuri sauce and salted peewee potatoes or the Golden Tilefish with a mushroom mezcal mole, fresh angel hair pasta and cilantro blossoms.

Complement your dinner with a glass of natural wine from an extensive list curated by sommeliers Tamy Rofe and Raquel Makler, or try a glass of the rotating wine on tap. Additionally, Comodo offers a variety of cocktails that match the liveliness of The Freehand Hotel. We suggest the Martina #2 made with Mezcal and Bresca Dorada Arangiu orange liqueur, and the Pineapple Daisy made with VS Cognac and Pineapple Amaro. End the night with a dessert likeChef Donnelly’s popular Churros served with Mexican chocolate sauce or the Chocolate Tamal with Smoked Guajillo Ice Cream.

Comodo is a great spot for a weekday breakfast or business lunch. For breakfast, guests can choose between savory and sweet options such as the Comodo Benedict served on arepas with pork belly, or Mexican Cacao Overnight Oats served with homemade fruit preserves. For lunch, the Little Gem salad, Sopa del Día – soup of the day, and Poblano Burger make for the perfect mid-day meal.
