History Spotlight: Sissieretta Jones

Black History Month is observed from February 1 through March 1. We honor Black history, achievement, and legacy.

Today we remember soprano Sissieretta Jones and her groundbreaking Madison Square Garden performance at the 26th Street and Madison Avenue venue in 1892, which led to her launch as a global opera superstar.

Permanent Outdoor Dining Rules Finalized

The NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) released the final rules for New York City’s permanent outdoor dining program, Dining Out NYC.

All eligible food establishments citywide are welcome to apply starting in March 2024. View the requirements for designing, building, and operating sidewalk and roadway dining sheds.

NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY): All Businesses Must Containerize Trash

The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is implementing a new rule to send rats packing. Starting March 1st, all businesses in NYC must use rigid containers with secure lids when setting out trash for collection.

Businesses that place waste on the curb have two options:

  • Place waste at the curb 1 hour before closing or after 8:00 PM

DSNY is hosting a series of one-hour information sessions through March 25th. Please register for sessions in advance by clicking here.

Friday, March 1. Eataly‘s kiosk on the North Plaza is scheduled to reopen in early February.
