participatory budgeting vote week is here

It’s time to vote! City Councilmember Erik Bottcher has allocated $1 million for Participatory Budgeting (PB) in Council District 3 (which includes Flatiron & NoMad).

Now through April 6,  anyone who lives, works, or goes to school (ages 11 and up) in District 3 is eligible to vote. Individuals can vote online and in-person.

Ballot items in Flatiron & NoMad include:

  • Flatiron Plaza Reconstruction: 23rd Street at Fifth Avenue & Broadway
    • Cost: $300K
    • This funding would facilitate the redesign of the large pedestrian plaza in the heart of our neighborhood.

March Notice: A demonstration march (Hands Off 2025) is scheduled to begin at Bryant Park at 1pm this Saturday, April 5th. The march will head south on Fifth Avenue to Madison Square Park. Please be aware of increased activity in the neighborhood.

Artist & Creatives Call: The Flatiron NoMad Partnership seeks concepts for asphalt mural design and implementation for the pedestrian plazas at 28th Street and Broadway. The selected asphalt mural is an opportunity to highlight this historical connection between the Flower District and Tin Pan Alley while also celebrating the City’s transformative Broadway Vision project. The submission deadline is Friday, April 25. Learn more here.

DSNY Curbside Composting: As of April 1, 2025, separation of compost from trash is now mandatory. Register for a virtual info session tomorrow, Thursday, April 10 at 4 pm to learn about composting best practices. Learn more about curbside composting here.

Construction Notice: The NYC Department of Design & Construction (DDC) announced pedestrian ramp construction will soon begin at various locations in Manhattan and Queens to upgrade ramps to ADA specifications. The anticipated completion of the entire project is September 2026. Location specific advisories will be distributed 72 hours prior to the start of work at each corner. Locations in Flatiron and NoMad include Madison Avenue from East 23rd Street to East 36th Street. Street Closures:

  • West 22nd Street between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue will be closed from 9 am to 3 pm Monday – Friday through April 25th to excavate and install conduit and vault for new major service.
